Here are two terrific ways to use our radio communication skills and enjoy Community Events. As well as being a lot of fun, these Events enable us to hone our communications skills and make a big contribution to our communities. The three events are:

International Marathon: we have agreed as a club to assist with radio communications this year for this International Marathon. It will be run on Sunday October 30th. The marathon starts in the Buffalo area, crosses the Peace Bridge, then along the Niagara Parkway and ends (at the 26 mile point) close to the Horseshoe Falls. There will be over 5,000 participants in the race, and it is one of the qualifying races for next YEAR’S Boston Marathon. The plan is to use our radio skills for the portion of the run from the Peace Bridge up to the finish line at the Horseshoe Falls. There will be many rest stops for the runners and the organizers would like us to have an operator at as many of these as we can. Henry Jarzyna VA3OV will be Net Control and between now and the race itself, will be carrying out tests to affirm which repeaters or which simplex frequencies will give us complete race course coverage.

I would like to see a good number of our club members participate in this event. Also, if you know of Amateurs who are not club members and who might have an interest in participating, please send them to the website to sign up. The race will take several hours of course, but each of the locations will be such that you can either stay with your vehicle or set up with a comfortable chair. If you can participate for just some of the time, let me know and we'll arrange for that.

To sign up as a volunteer for this event please follow this link: International Marathon. Let’s arrange a good turnout for this Marathon.

2016 santa claus.jpgCity of Niagara Falls Santa Claus parade: this annual event is on Saturday November 19th and will use the same route as in previous years, i.e. along Victoria Avenue, right onto Valley Way and then continue along Queen Street and end at Erie Avenue.  Sign up and I’ll email more details as we get closer to the date. I look forward to hearing from you on these Community Events!
